What is housing like? On-post? (waiting list, conditions, etc.) Off-post? Any areas to stay away from? Average price to rent or buy?

The new housing seems to be really nice. Its only me, my husband and our daughter so we didn't get the new housing. I think its for larger families. Our housing isn't the best or the worst. Its definitely not worth the bah though. I'm not sure about off post.

Rate the PX & Commissary.

The PX is nice. I do believe it is fairly new. I'm not too fond of the commissary. Its always packed in there and they don't have a wide variety of products.

Activities on base?

There's two bowling alleys, two gyms (one with an indoor pool), a water park type thing for the kids, a club type bar place and numerous playgrounds and trails.

Active Spouses Club?

hmm not too sure.

Things to do in area?

There's a movie theater in Hinesville and that's about it. Jesup, which is like 30min away, has a drive in theater that's pretty cool and savannah is only about an hour away and there's tons to do there. I would recommend going to Tybee Island. Its very nice.

School System?

Not to sure about this either. My daughter isn't in school yet. We live close to two schools though and both seem nice. There's always lots of MPs directing traffic and making sure the kids are safe before and after school.

Any colleges in area?

Don't know.

Jobs? (on post and off)

Most people I know drive to Savannah to work.

Favorite aspect of this base/surrounding city?

Going to savannah and to the beach. There's nothing great in Hinesville.

Least favorite aspect?

It seems that they are always working on a water main in our area so our water gets shut off a few times a month while they work on it and most of our neighbors are very loud.

Any other tips?

Wear bug spray going outside in the summer. The gnats are horrible here.
