15Y AH-64D Armament/ Electrical Systems Repairer

Your Name (as you would like it to appear): Melanie Smitherman

Your Soldier's MOS: 15Y AH-64D Armament/ Electrical Systems Repairer

When did your soldier attend BCT? Ft. Sill, OK

Where was he stationed for AIT? Ft. Eustis, VA

How long was his AIT? 26 weeks and 4 days

What was his training like? Normal schedule? Did he train on weekends? Late at night? Classroom or field based? Jason's class were the "Night Hawks". They attended class from 1630 to 0000. They would wake up at 0830, do PT, chow at 1000, then personal time until 1500, then chow again. Class time would be broken out and they would have 15 minute breaks here and there, then chow from 1930 to 2045. Class consisted of "classroom" time, then moved up to going to the hangar to work on the Apache's.

Did you get to see him during AIT? Since his AIT was so long, his orders stated that I was authorized to PCS, so I did. I get to see him only on the weekends, but it is well worth it. At first, I could only pick him up on Sat and Sun morning and have to drop him off each night at 2100, but as they received more privileges, he was then allowed to be picked up after class on Friday night and is able to stay until 1600 on Sunday.

How often were you able to communicate with him? By phone? Email? He has had his cell phone since he stepped on the plane for AIT. He can use his phone on personal time.

Describe the graduation ceremony: Haven't been yet, but I will answer this in a few weeks.

Any other tips or information? Nothing that I can think of at the moment, but if you have any questions, let me know!
