21E Heavy Equipment Operator

Your Name (as you would like it to appear): Lizz Burnett

Your Soldier's MOS (please include code and description, for example "11B Infantry")

 21E- Heavy Equipment Operator

When did your soldier attend?

 April 1, 2008- June 3, 2008

Where was he stationed for AIT?

 Ft. Leonard Wood, MO

How long was his AIT?

6 1/2 weeks but he had to stay a week longer because he came home for a week in the middle of course

What was his training like? Normal schedule? Did he train on weekends? Late at night? Classroom or field based?

His training was like going to school for a trade. They would get up at 6 for pt and then be in class by 8. He was out by 5. Monday thru Friday no weekends no nights. He trained mostly in the field on the equipment with going to the classroom maybe once a week.

Did you get to see him during AIT?

I went there to see him but before I got there he had to take a pt test to get an "iron soldier" pass. Which means the soldiers can leave base. Otherwise he wouldn't have been able to leave.

How often were you able to communicate with him? By phone? Email?

His personal time was 7-9pm during the week and all day on the weekends until 9pm and we spoke everyday. If the soldiers get in trouble though they get their phone privileges taken away. My husband had his cell phone the whole time. They are allowed laptops too.

Describe the graduation ceremony.

Haven't gotten there yet but he said it's just something they do outside in formation nothing big at all

Any other tips or information?

If they do what their told and don't go off and get drunk it's pretty laid back
