Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri

How long was his AIT?
8 weeks

What was his training like? Normal schedule? Did he train on weekends? Late at night? Classroom or field based?
Mon-Sat, usually from 6am -4pm. The first 2 weeks were classroom and then the rest was field-based, learning to drive the different vehicles. There were a couple night drives until @ 10pm.

Did you get to see him during AIT?
We lived too far away to go down there. But they received on-post passes usually on Saturday for a few hours. Then Sunday they had on-post passes for most of the day. The only time they got the opportunity for an off post pass was the last two weekends.

How often were you able to communicate with him? By phone? Email?
By phone nightly from the first day of AIT all through until the end. Email wasn't available.

Describe the graduation ceremony.
It was about a 1/2 hour long. They showed a slide-show of the training class and a short one of the Army in general. Then they gave out the promotional awards to the handful that got them. After that, each soldier came up and said their name/station. Once the grad. procession was over, the captain said a few words to the soldiers and released them to speak with their families for 10 minutes. They all had to get into formation after that and march back to their barracks. The ones who had permission to have someone drive them, were released about 15 minutes after getting back to the barracks. The rest were either getting into taxis to go to the airport to go to their duty stations, or waited there until it was time to go to the airport.

Any other tips or information?
DH's AIT was very short compared to the majority I have seen. The communication opportunity was much better compared to basic.
