Separated During College

in PCS Move

My fiance is enlisting soon and aiming for Special Forces. He is supposed to leave for training in September and finish BCT/AIT in February. I’m currently attending school on a full scholarship, and it would be downright silly of me to give that up and move with him if we get married before I finish.

I know that after his training he’ll essentially be in training for 2 years for Special Forces. If we’re living apart because of school and training, how often will we get to see each other? And if he’s stationed somewhere when I graduate, will the army pay to move me where he is even if he’s been there awhile?

I agree that it makes complete sense for you to finish your education, especially when you have a full scholarship. As far as how often you would see him, the visitation is different for each of his phases of training. For instance, during SERE, there is no communication at all compared to language school, where you should be able to visit with him more often.

If you are married when he has his orders drawn up and you are on them, the Army will pay for you to move. If it is some time after the orders are processed and he moves, you will need to check with the transportation office about moving. If you are not married when his orders are cut, he would have to attempt to get them amended to include you when you are married (assuming it is very quickly after he gets his orders). This is not a sure thing though so don’t count on it until you know it’s done.

I hope it all works out!
